POSTFUN MOURNS A SCORCHED STORE IN DEBUT SINGLE “WHEN THE WIND SHIFTS”
Postfun, a new indie-pop project in Halifax, will be debuting their first single “When the Wind Shifts” on October 16, 2020.
“I like telling stories”, says Jack Murtha, creator of Postfun. Murtha, who also plays in bands Social Smokers Club and norc, says this project is his idea of pop music mixed with his passion for story-telling.
“When the Wind Shifts” reflects Murtha’s experiences on the South Shore:
“We’d go into the Petite Riviere General Store ‘cause it was the [closest] place you could get liquor . . . there were these volunteer firefighters that always cracked stupid things at you when you’re walking in . . . the second verse of the song is about those guys.”
Postfun unofficially began in 2017 when Murtha started a co-op at Codapop Studios. There, he first recorded his own musical ideas. On “When the Wind Shifts”, Murtha is the sole musician and song-writer, with the exception of the saxophone. “I’ve always admired artists who record and do all their own stuff”, he says.
For Postfun live shows, Murtha has assembled a band of local musicians to make his pop vision come to life, including Thomas Hart and Mackenzie Adams of Honeymoon Driver, solo artist Kevin Laing, and Carter MacDonald from Indie band Sore Loser.
“When the Wind Shifts will be released to streaming platforms on October 16, 2020"
